What is Wines of Tasmania?

Wines of Tasmania is a locally-owned business formed through a collaboration of Tasmanian wine industry families who were determined to find a new way to give wine lovers access to high-end, premium and hard-to-find wine, from every corner of the State. The catalyst for this innovative approach was during the 2020 pandemic when the border to Tasmania was closed, travel restrictions set in, and the cellar door experience ceased overnight. We are wine industry people with an unprecedented depth of experience and knowledge to know with certainty what wines are exceptional. There’s no guesswork because our panel of blind-tasters grow, make and taste wine, for a living. Our subscribers therefore receive an expertly-curated selection of the finest Tasmanian wines, each month.

Where are you based?

We operate our online business from Launceston, Tasmania. Launceston is in the north of Tasmania, approximately three hours drive from Hobart. Tasmania is Australia’s only island state and is located south of Victoria. Tasmania has a unique cool climate. perfect for particular wine varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Tasmanian Sparkling wine is world-renowned, rivaling Champagne in France to produce some of the world’s most award-winning sparkling wines.

Where does the wine come from?

The wines chosen are from Tasmania’s top family-owned wine producers who own, grow and make wine locally in Tasmania. We are dedicated to supporting smaller boutique wine brands who strive to make the finest quality wine from across Tasmania’s diverse sub-wine regions.

Subscriptions

What is involved with a subscription to Wines of Tasmania?

Depending on what subscription you’ve chosen (Red, White, Sparkling, Mix-3, Mix-6), and how often you want it (every month, every two, or every three), you will receive a beautifully packaged box of Tasmania’s rarest and most sought-after wines. Each month we curate a new selection of wines that have been sourced from the best boutique wine producers in Tasmania. If you’re not scheduled to receive a box that month, you will have to wait till your monthly cycle rolls around to receive the latest selection. No pressure though, if you change your mind, you can cancel at any time.

When do I get my wine?

When you subscribe, your first wine box will be dispatched within 48 hours.  The first of our new monthly shipments starts around the 16th of the month. So depending on when you’re charged, you can expect it to arrive within approximately five to seven working days, unless you’re in a regional area, which can take up to 10 working days.

Delivery times can sometimes change without notice. We understand the inconvenience this causes but have good systems in place to track where your box may be. Should you have concerns about the delivery status of your box please contact us in the first instance.

Please keep this in mind as you enter your address for where you’ll be to sign for your delivery in week, to a fortnight’s time. If you need to change your address temporarily (gift it to a friend?), just send us an email with the details.

How do I know what wine I am getting?

Around the 10th of each month, our shop is updated to reflect the new monthly boxes that have landed. If you’re already a subscriber, we’ll send you an email around that time letting you know what’s coming. That month’s box is then shipped to our subscribers around the 16th of the month. That monthly selection is then available until the 10th of the next month for new subscribers unless stock runs out.

Can I buy it as a gift, or one-off?

Yes, both our Gift boxes and Subscription Boxes (pending stock availability that month) are available to buy as a one-off purchase. (Our subscribers are otherwise guaranteed to get that month’s selection.)

Should you wish to purchase several boxes, to multiple addresses, please email hello@winesoftasmania.com.au.

Refunds

What is your refund/returns policy?

Wines of Tasmania is all about introducing fine wine lovers to Tasmania’s best boutique wines. All of our wines are carefully chosen through a blind-taste by a panel of wine industry experts. Wines chosen are usually of a traditional style, but we will occasionally include natural wines. As the majority of the wines are under stelvin cap, they are not at risk of being cork tainted.

Should you discover that a wine we’ve sent is not up to your expectations, please let us know. We want you to be tasting Tasmania’s finest wines so will provide a credit, refund, or replacement bottle of equivalent value in your next subscription box.

Exclusive Selections

How do you blind-taste the wines? Who are these expert judges?

In fact, all our blind-tasters can see (#dadjoke) but when they are tasting the wines, they don’t actually know where it’s from. This is to ensure neutrality and to help with recording tasting notes. The panel of judges comprises no less than five people and usually includes several senior winemakers, sommeliers, and experienced wine connoisseurs.

What happens if you run out of a particular wine?

Our monthly subscribers are guaranteed to get the wines we promote on the site (updated around the 10th of each month). For any new subscribers, if our monthly selection has run out of a particular wine (which may happen from time to time due to the rare nature of some wines), we will make sure that is reflected on the website and what alternative is now included.

What do I do with the QR code on the bottle?

You can scan the QR code using your phone camera or QR code reader app and it’ll take you to our website where you can find more information about the wines, where they came from and other relevant information that is regularly updated.
